GHOSTS-10.jpg

Ghosts

Ghosts is a photographic study of the former Gladesville Psychiatric Hospital. Within these images I have tried to capture the beauty and importance of this historic site in Northern Sydney. Some of the buildings now lie in a state of disrepair. I hope in time that it might be restored to its former beauty and utilised as a place for community gatherings and artistic endeavours. Historically the Gladesville facility was established in 1838 and was one of the first sites in Sydney where patients received treatment rather than being confined to a cemetery for diseased intellects. In 1869 the name was changed to the Hospital for the Insane. In 1915 the facility became known as the Gladesville Mental Hospital. After an amalgamation in 1993 with Macquarie Hospital, North Ryde, the hospital’s inpatient services were transferred to the North Ryde site and in 1997 and the Gladesville facility was closed. Ludlites Love Music - Rabbit Heart

LYRIC INSPIRATION Rabbit Heart Florence and the Machine Here I am, a rabbit hearted girl Frozen in the headlights It seems I made the final sacrifice OVERVIEW Rabbit Heart is such a personally powerful song to me, when I listened to the song I saw this image in my head. I used Neopan 400 ISO, out of date film for this series of shots. I had a specific feel in mind for the image, trying to replicate the lyric ‘Frozen in the headlights’ using a torch and having the model hold the torch out of shot to illustrate the headlights of a car. I have tried to create a surreal image part human part rabbit, by the use of multiple exposure, available light and the artificial light of the torch. The beauty of Lomography and multiple exposures is at the time you are shooting you are never really sure of what you are going to get, which is part of the emotive drive behind my Lomography photography. Thanks goes to Jordy Aldridge for modelling and Jackson Aldridge for assisting me on this shoot.

Ludlites Love Music - Never Let Me Go

LYRIC INSPIRATION Never Let Me Go Florence and the Machine And the arms of the ocean are carrying me, And all this devotion was rushing over (out of) me, And the crashes are heaven, for a sinner like me, But the arms of the ocean deliver me. his series of images, shot at Manly Dam, was a completely experimental set. Exploring the feminine, the power, the struggle and the triumph of being a woman, going with the flow and allowing life to happen as it’s meant to, just as the lyrics in the song describe - ‘And the arms of the ocean are carrying me’ with such power and direction of how we need to flow with life is present it is in these lyrics, and completely resonated with me. The beauty of Lomography and multiple exposures is at the time you are shooting you are never really sure of what you are going to get, which is part of the emotive drive behind my Lomography photography. The double exposure in this image lines up beautifully as the model blends into the mountain as she floats on a body of water. I would like to thank Anna Paola Boyd for modeling for me for this series and Sandra Stamatov for assisting me on the day of this shoot.
